Adult Forum

Adult Forum meets in the library between Sunday morning services where a wide variety of topics and issues are presented and discussed. This provides an excellent opportunity to hear different views and opinions as well as to learn new information of interest to our congregation and beyond.

Nancy Ishimwe, with her sisters Nadine and Diane, recently participated in an Adult Forum class to discuss their journey from Rwanda to the United States. With the financial help of Cedar Heights Presbyterian Church, Nancy (r.), Nadine (l.), and Diane (c.) left their country of Rwanda to study at UNI here in Cedar Falls. See the Mission section of this website for more information about this mission effort.

Over the Coffee
This gathering every Sunday morning between services is a relaxed discussion class featuring great coffee and conversation about topics that are either in the news or just on people’s minds. A new subject is discussed weekly.

Lunch with the Lectionary (Bible Study)
Meeting every Monday at 12:00 noon, this group has their sack lunch together while they informally engage in an hour-long Bible study centered on the Bible passages for next week’s sermon. Come when you can—leave when you must.

Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?
Small group dinner parties are held once every few months. Some individuals offer to host a dinner and others sign up to attend. Or people can do both! This is a great way to meet a variety of people from the church in the relaxed atmosphere of someone’s home.

Contemporary Issues (TOPIC Groups)

These groups, some of which have been in existence a long time at CHCPC, are small groups that meet in a group member’s home. Each group sets is own focus and schedule. Many of the groups are comprised of couples. Most of the individuals in the group are CHCPC members, but this is not a requirement. On the Fives
This group meets every Thursday morning at 6:05 a.m. for fellowship and discussion. Occasionally the group reads and discusses a book; frequently they select an issue or topic in the news to discuss. They always enjoy each other’s company at an early hour of the day!

Retired Men
This group meets for breakfast on the third Friday of every month at 8:15 a.m. at the Cedar Falls Village Inn. It’s a time to catch up on what everyone’s been doing as well as a chance to settle the world’s problems over a cup of hot coffee.

"Reel" Men Fishing Group

This group is centered on a frequent activity for many men: keeping meat on the family table…. The group meets a couple times a year to discuss certain aspects of this noble sport, always remembering that fishing is dedicated to keeping men out of trouble and out of their wives’ hair. At least one group fishing trip a year is planned, and it usually does occur. Contact Jerry Purcell for more information at: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Women Together
This gathering is a support group for widows. The group meets at 1:00 p.m. in the church library on the second Tuesday of every month. For information, contact the church office at: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Presbyterian Women
The Presbyterian Women have both an afternoon and an evening circle which meet for bible study and fellowship. For information, contact the church office at: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Knitting Fellowship Circle

The knitting ministry circle meets on the first and third Wednesday each month from 9:30-11:00 a.m. in Brinkerhoff Lounge. They knit prayer shawls to be given away as well as other items they may wish to work on.

These photos show the special Christmas trees that were sewn and knitted as Christmas tree gifts for the 2009 season.

Women's Retreat

Each winter, CHCPC offers a Women’s Retreat weekend opportunity. After a Friday night supper at the church, participants travel to Camp Ewalu near Strawberry Point, staying overnight in a rustic and comfortable lodge where all meals are provided. Group activities on Friday night and until mid-afternoon on Saturday include devotions, worship, workshops, exercise, games, crafts, and fellowship. The retreat enables women time to get to know each other better, to grow their faith and friendships in a warm atmosphere. Women's Book Group

This group meets the second Thursday of each month at 9:30 a.m. in Brinkerhoff Lounge. For information on books being read, contact Trudy Olson at 233-6867.

Coed Adult Book Group
In this group men and women who enjoy reading a variety of books frequently meet to discuss their reactions to and evaluation of both fiction and nonfiction. Some books are historical and others tackle an issue of interest to the group. Generally this group is led by one of the participants, but the leadership of the discussion is readily shared among the participants.
